Accounting Specialist (Accounts Payable)
NMPP Energy, located in Lincoln, Nebraska, is seeking an Accounting Specialist to join our team. Use your accounting skills, attention to detail, and organizational abilities to support accounts payable and payment processing activities for the organization. In this role, you will work closely with staff across the organization to ensure invoices and payments are handled accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with company policies.
The Accounting Specialist supports the mission of NMPP Energy by:
- Reviewing payment transactions (accounts payable invoices, expense reimbursements, charge accounts, etc.) for accuracy, supporting documentation, and appropriate authorization; processing accounts payable invoices in an accurate and timely manner to ensure payment in accordance with vendor terms; ensuring invoices have proper approval documentation; determining appropriate account coding; recording transactions in the accounting system; and verifying payment accuracy prior to release.
- Processing cash disbursements, including preparing supporting documentation and reports, and maintaining tracking logs for various company programs and initiatives.
- Administering the corporate credit card program, including managing card issuance, limits, fraud claims, and the credit card charge reporting system.
- Maintaining the electronic filing system for accounts payable invoices and retaining records in accordance with corporate policies and guidelines.
- Maintaining W-9 files and processing annual 1099s.
- Facilitating and monitoring the workflow system used to route invoices for review and approval.
- Organizing department meetings and group events.
Skills & Qualifications You Need
- Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and 1-3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Solid understanding of basic accounting principles and practices.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in financial recordkeeping.
- Ability to quickly learn, accounting software and systems.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of sensitive financial information.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and vendors.
