NMPP Energy, located in Lincoln, Nebraska is seeking a Lead Accountant to join our team. Use your skills, experience, and talents to provide advanced financial accounting support, lead large and complex projects, and provide guidance and direction to other accounting personnel. The Lead Accountant also delivers advanced accounting advice to management, ensures the accurate and timely billing, recording, and reporting of operating revenues and expenses, and oversees the preparation of disclosure reports and other required filings.

The Lead Accountant supports the mission of NMPP Energy by:
- Reviewing and overseeing complex accounting transactions related to market activity, capacity, energy, generation, and transmission; managing billing disputes; and developing estimates to support accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Reviewing and approving meter data, allocated transmission and ancillary service costs, billing credits, invoices, and revenue reports to ensure accurate invoicing and compliance with GAAP and federal regulatory accounting standards.
- Preparing and reviewing monthly and annual financial and operating statements, management and departmental reports, projections, and budget-to-actual variance explanations; performing general ledger activities and leading month-end and year-end close processes.
- Monitoring regulatory standards and pronouncements and developing, recommending, and administering policies, procedures, and systems to ensure accurate billing and validation of electric energy costs.
- Serving as lead to other staff by prioritizing, assigning, and monitoring work and leading large, complex projects.
- Preparing or assisting with required filings and continuing disclosure reports for regional transmission organizations, federal agencies, and tax-exempt financing compliance.
- Acting as a departmental advisor and liaison to internal stakeholders, external entities, auditors, and vendors; providing reports, analysis, and audit support.
Skills & Qualifications You Need
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 5–7 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office and internet-based applications.
- Ability to develop and maintain complex spreadsheets, including formulas and macros.
- Ability to acquire and apply knowledge of accounting and financial systems.
- Working knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, FERC accounting practices, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial analysis and reporting.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, customers, auditors, and vendors.
